The First Cataract Camp in Beaufort District was held on Sunday, 10 Sep 2017 at Dewan Pak Musa, Beaufort. The camp was jointly organized by Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu and Hospital Beaufort. Team of Rotarians led by Chairman Paul Thien and President Ravi and consisting of PP Robert Lai, Rotarians Alvin Chong, Rotarians Benjamin Lo, PP Tony Siaw and PP George Ng as well as spouses Jacinta, Margaret and Jenny went to Beaufort to organize the Camp. Beaufort Hospital Director Dr. Sutharsan Kannan and Optometrist Ruby Wong with support staff provided local support. Based on registration 362 patients were screened, 131 were initially referred for further investigation and 97 confirmed to have cataract of varying severity. This is the first Cataract Camp to be funded by the Rotary Global Grant 1642940 and all the patients will get sponsorship of intra-ocular lenses.
