Cure Cataract Campaign 2017-18

PHASE III IN BEAUFORT: This is a long-term flagship project of RCKK, initiated in April 2016 as a successor to our long running Avoidable Blindness Project which was started in the year 2007. During the Rotary Year 2016-17 the Districts of Penampang and Papar were covered by a series of Camps held in villages and small towns. Moving further southward, this year our schedule is to cover the districts of Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang. Team of Rotarians consisting of Chairman of CCC Rotarian Paul Thien, Past President Robert Lai, Past President Chiang Wei Chia and President Ravi called on the District Officer Beaufort, Tuan Haji Mohd. Shaid Bin Othman on Aug 3, to brief him and seek the support of the District Administration (Picture). Subsequently President Ravi along with Chairman Rotarian Paul and Past President Chiang Wei Chia also visited Beaufort on 23 Aug to give a detailed briefing to the village development officers and village chiefs on Cataract and the CCC project undertaken by the Club (Picture).

DONATION OF PORTABLE CATARACT SURGERY EQUIPMENT BY SABAH CREDIT CORPORATION:
Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC), a Government-linked corporation under the Sabah State Ministry of Finance, undertook this initiative as their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.  SCC donated three vital pieces of portable eye surgery equipment to the Hospital Queen Elizabeth Kota Kinabalu (under Ministry of Health Malaysia). These are, namely:
1.    Portable Operating Microscope
2.    Portable Phaco-Emulsification System
3.    Portable Autoclave
Total cost of the equipment is RM 352,980. The Donation was officially made in the form of presentation of a placard showing all 3 systems by the Chief Executive Officer of SCC Datuk Vincent Pung to the Director of Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Dr Heric Corray, witnessed by Hon Chief Minister of Sabah Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, senior officials of SCC and President Dr Ravi Mandalam of Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu. Sabah Credit Corporation has conducted a number of similar projects together with Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu as Partner in Service and Datuk Vincent Pung is a senior member and Past President of the Club (2000-2001). SCC Chief Finance Officer Rotarian George Taitim Tulas is the Hon Secretary of the Club, this Rotary Year. The donation of these three portable systems will facilitate the performance of cataract operations in the district hospitals of Sabah.

GLOBAL GRANT 1642940 GIFT OF SIGHT SABAH: Six Rotary Clubs in Sabah and Labuan Federal Territory have joined hands to undertake this Global Grant Project. Their respective contributions are as shown in the GG Application. RCKK with a contribution of US$ 5000 is the lead contributor. Together with non-Rotary contribution from HSBC Berhad (US$24150) ,  International Partner contribution from Taiwan (District Designated Funds of US$13000) and matching contributions from Rotary Foundation the total project amount is worth US$85464, which was released for Project Implementation  by The Rotary Foundation.  The Global Grant Gift of Sight Sabah is the product of the initiative taken by Past District Governor D3310 Philip Chong (2015-16) during his tenure and is expected to benefit nearly 800 patients who are unable to afford the cost of Intra-ocular lenses. Upon receipt of the Grant money team of Rotarians from RCKK and RC Likas Bay called on the Head of Ophthalmic Services, Sabah, Dr Shuaibah Abdul Ghani (Picture) to give a briefing and discuss the utilization of the Grant which is meant for the
whole state of Sabah and Labuan Federal Territory. President Ravi also gave a brief introduction to two of the participating clubs RC Likas Bay and RC Tanjung Aru on the project (Picture)
